Supplements, Remedies & Medications
Supplements, remedies, and medications are supposed to help you feel better, stay healthy, or treat something that’s gone wrong. But between the promises on the packaging and what these products actually do, there’s plenty worth questioning.
This section of Toxic Goods takes a closer look at vitamins, dietary supplements, prescription and over-the-counter drugs, herbal remedies, and alternative treatments. The focus is on ingredients, claimed benefits, potential side effects, safety concerns, and the tradeoffs that don’t always get much attention.
Some products have solid evidence behind them. Others rely heavily on marketing, questionable claims, or assumptions that deserve more scrutiny. Even familiar treatments can come with limitations people rarely consider.
The point isn’t to label everything dangerous. It’s to look past the reassuring language, examine what’s known and what’s uncertain, and give you a better understanding of what you’re putting into your body and why.
